Clinical Pastoral Education Information

Curriculum

Didactic Seminars

A. Focuses on various aspects of pastoral care that include care to specific clinical populations, review of literature of pastoral theology, how the behavior sciences interact with pastoral care, worship and spirituality. 1-3 hours each week.


Pastoral Case Study Seminar

A. Detailed study of reports of visits with patients and conversations with staff. Each internpresents representative work for peer review and supervision. 1.5 hours each week.


Interpersonal Relationships Group (IPR)

Focuses on the interpersonal relationship of the training group members growing out of their clinical encounters and their personal involvement with each other. 1.5 hours each week.


Individual Supervision

An hour of individual supervision weekly that covers representative materials of the intern’s pastoral ministry in the facility. Scheduled time.


Pastoral Practicum

A. Each intern will be assigned a clinical area in which she/he will function as a pastor. The intern will design and implement under supervision, a program of pastoral care to patients and staff in that area. 30 hours.


Consultation for Learning Contract

A. Each intern will present his/her learning goals to the supervisor and at least oneother party (one or more peers and/or another supervisor) at the beginning of the unit. The intern’s goals will be addressed in the supervisor’s and the student’s own evaluation.


Course Requirements

  1. Tuition is $1100.00 per unit $100 application $500 upon week six of class.

  2. Minimum of 400 hours of CPE/T including class time, clinical and evaluations.
  3. 18-20 weeks of CPE/T. This includes approximately:

    18 group classes = 81 hours

    9 one-on-one supervisions = 9 hours

    16.5 clinical hours per week = 300 hours

    Book reviews - Journal time = 10 hours

  4. Assigned area of ministry approved by supervisor and Training Center.

A Day of CPE/T

  1. Check-in: 40 minutes
  2. The interns will have the opportunity to openly reflect upon their recent experiences in ministry. Requested will be the compass approach.

  3. Opening for the class: Supervisor’s ‘Theme of the day’
  4. Opening will set the tone for the day lasting 5-15 minutes. this message is to assist the intern in corralling their thoughts to focus on the nature of pastoral ministry and clinicalpastoral training. This message will continue with responses and statements.

  5. Training Module for the day: 1 hours
  6. Group observation and discussion on theme and how it relates to their personal character and approach of pastoral care.

  7. Group re-group, reflect: 15 minutes

  8. Case Study-Group Evaluation: 1 hour
  9. Minimum of 2 cases per group.

  10. Intern’s Review: 40 minutes

  11. Wrap up for the day
  12. Summary of the day and prep for next class.
